Personal Care Kits and School Kits

Join us September 7th in the Spirit Center

Personal Care Kits and School Kits

On Sunday, September 7, 2014, Holy Spirit will be joining with other congregations across the country, for a very special day of service.  Our project is a familiar one to us: assembling Personal Care Kits and School Kits.  This year we are adding QUILTS to our contribution.  Our event will be fast and furious as we pack the School Kits and Health Kits in “assembly line” fashion.  All are invited to help or watch the excitement at this “intergenerational event” to be held in the Spirit Center.

We will be collecting items for the kits during the month of August.  Instead of one individual getting all of the materials needed for one kit we are asking that you simply buy one item in quantity.  Post-it notes are on the windows of the narthex with the item request and number needed of each item.  Take one or more of the post-it notes and go shopping.  Many school items are on sale right now!  Place the items you purchase in the collection baskets/boxes before September 7.

On September 7, in the Spirit Center after church, we will need all hands “on deck”!  Items for the assembly lines will be set up and ready to go immediately after church.  Each person is vital to the project, adults and kids can help pack school bags or towels with health kit items.

Light refreshments will be served! Come and be a part of an exciting experience of helping others!

Summer Trip for Children

Faith in the Wilderness: Tuesday, July 29 (ages 6 to 12)

Summer Trip for Children

Tuesday, July 29 (ages 6 to 12)

Faith in the Wilderness:

the summer day program held at the Lutheran Camping Corporation’s Wittel Farm, near Elizabethtown

It’s your first mission trip to learn about God’s great world!

The Bible contains vivid stories and lessons of people living faithfully amid the challenges, hardships, and temptations of the wilderness. Moses, John the Baptist, Jesus and his disciples,

Elijah, Noah, and many others spent time in and endured the hardships of the wilderness through God’s grace and by faith. While we may not often think about the wilderness in our day-to-day lives, we live in a modern wilderness that regularly challenges our faith. The 2014 Wittel Farm Summer Day Program will bring to life some of the best-known wilderness Bible stories through games, stories, discussions, activities, worship, and crafts. We will gain deeper understanding of our faith and of God’s grace. We will be inspired to live faithful lives in our modern wilderness.

We’ll leave from the church at 8:45 a.m. The program includes lunch. And following lunch we’re invited to make the short drive to Camp Kirchenwald for some time in the swimming pool! We will arrive back at the church around 3:30 p.m.

The registration fee is being underwritten by the youth fund. But each person is asked to bring one can of food to be donated to a local food bank.  Some parents will be asked to help in driving. If you can help, pleased indicate that on the registration form. Just fill out, detach and hand in the lower part of this page to the church office.

The Quilting Team

March 18 we will be meeting at the church…come join us!

Social Ministry and Lutheran World Relief Quilt Teams Meet “God’s Work, Our Hands”

On March 18 at 6:00 p.m. the Social Ministry Team will meet in the Pastor’s office and the Quilting Team will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Spirit Center to work on quilts.  Our quilting group is off to a great start, having already completed one quilt.  Your hands are needed to help put these quilts together.  The quilts are made from 11” x 11” squares and are machine sewn.  Cutting the squares while others are sewing is a big help going forward with our goal of completing 5 to 6 quilts this year!  The quilts are part of the fall LWR “in-gathering” and will give needed warmth to those in need around the world.

I hope you are anxious to lend a hand with one or both of these ministries.  The work we do expresses our love and desire to do “God’s Work” All are invited to attend one or both of these meetings.  If you need more information please contact the church office!
