From the Pastor- Dec./Jan.

Bible nerd alert!

Here is the moment almost none of you knew to be waiting for. But let me tell you why I am so excited about it. Many of you have asked me which version of the Bible you should be getting. There is never any one correct answer to that question. However, this newest edition of the NRSV-Updated Version is an excellent place to start.

The previous version of this Bible is called the HarperCollins Study Bible.  It has been a standard in the academic study of the Bible for years. And now there is an updated version. What is there to update?

See the description below:

A thoroughly revised edition of The HarperCollins Study Bible, one of the leading study bibles used in undergraduate and graduate courses, the first study bible offering the full text of the New Revised Standard Version—Updated Edition.

Supported by the largest and most respected academic association of Bible scholars, The Society of Biblical Literature, The SBL Study Bible is the landmark general reference Bible that offers the full text of the New Revised Standard Version.

Now, this completely revised edition reflects the changes in the updated NRSV, incorporating:

· The latest scholarship and findings

· New diagrams, charts, and maps covering all the key time periods and regions of biblical events

· Comprehensive, accessible introductions to every book of the Bible with commentary and notes on each page

· Hundreds of new articles, charts, and images explaining key words, concepts, people, historical events, and historical context.

The hardcover version of this Bible is going to set you back about $50. However, it’s an investment worth making. As you may have guessed, I have already ordered my version.  If you’d like to check it out before getting your own, just ask to see it. Might I add that this could make an excellent Christmas present for any family member that is interested in serious study of the Bible. It would also be an excellent gift to give yourself!
